The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
The Friday following Corpus Christi is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in accordance with His request that a feast be dedicated to His honor on this day. The following day is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
We honor the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart each month on First Friday and First Saturday respectively also in accordance with revelations of Our Lord and Our Lady. June is also the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
As Trinity Sunday we celebrate the dogma on which our whole faith is hinged, the Sacred Heart is the devotion on which all others are hinged. The Sacred Heart formed by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Blessed Virgin, pierced on the Cross, the fount from which Divine Mercy and the Sacraments flow holds the key to all others. As Pentecost closes the Easter season the next two weeks Trinity Sunday and Corpus Christi are intimately related to the Easter mystery. In this way the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity and hidden in the Eucharist is tied to both.
An indulgence is gained on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart under the usual conditions when the prayer of reparation "Iesu Dulcissime" is prayed or a church named for the Sacred Heart is visited and an Our Father and creed prayed for the Pope's intentions. An indulgence can be gained by the latter means on the feast of the Immaculate Heart for churches named for the same. Check local churches for events happening to honor the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Litany of the Sacred Heart
Lord, I come to your tender heart today,
to you who have words that set my heart ablaze,
to you who pour out compassion on the little ones and the poor,
on those who suffer, and on all human miseries.
I desire to know you more, to contemplate you in the Gospel,
to be with you and learn from you
and from the charity with which you allowed yourself
to be touched by all forms of poverty.
You showed us the Father’s love by loving us without measure
with your divine and human heart.
Grant all your children the grace of encountering you.
Change, shape, and transform our plans,
so that we seek only you in every circumstance:
in prayer, in work, in encounters, and in our daily routine.
From this encounter, send us out on mission,
a mission of compassion for the world
in which you are the source from which all consolation flows.
Amen.
