Our Lady of Guadalupe

Today we celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe. A symbol of Mexican heritage, harmony among cultures and the tender compassion of Our Lady. Today we have the great treasure of the tilma of St. Juan Diego, no relic is as wondrous as this next to the burial shroud of Christ.

Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything.” -Our Lady to St. Juan Diego

Today's liturgical color is white or gold for Mary's purity and holiness. An indulgence can be gained today under the usual conditions* if a church named for Our Lady of Guadalupe is visit and the Apostle's Creed and Lord's Prayer are recited. For those consecrated to Mary on this feast in previous years and renew their consecration a plenary indulgence can be gained today. To make this renewal more efficacious see here. For members of the Rosary Confraternity and Living Rosary a plenary indulgence is gained under the usual conditions.

"Dearest Lady of Guadalupe, fruitful Mother of Holiness, teach me your ways of gentleness and strength.Hear my prayer offered with deep felt confidence to beg this favor... O Mary, conceived without sin, I come to your throne of grace to share the fervent devotion of your faithful Mexican children who call to you under the glorious Aztec title of "Guadalupe" the virgin who crushed the serpent.,Queen of Martyrs, whose Immaculate heart was pierced by seven wounds of grief, help me to walk valiantly amid the sharp thorns thrown across my pathway. Queen of Apostles aid me to win souls for the Sacred Heart of my Savior. I plead this through the merits of your merciful Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen." -From the Guadalupe Chapel in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception

For more about Our Lady’s miracle there is a 2020 film "Lady of Guadalupe" about the miracle we celebrate today. There's also a 1999 cartoon "Juan Diego: Messenger of Guadalupe".
