Exaltation of the Cross

 

Hail the Holy Cross, our only hope!

We adore You O Christ and we bless You because by Your Holy Cross You have redeemed the world! 

O God, who willed that your Only Begotten Son should undergo the Cross to save the human race, grant, we pray, that we, who have known his mystery on earth, may merit the grace of his redemption in heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Today we celebrate the finding of the relic of the Cross upon which Jesus suffered and died on Good Friday. Due to being tied to the Passion of Christ, the liturgical color for today's feast is red for the Precious Blood of Christ.

Ecumenical Note: Some stories mentioned in the legend of the finding of the True Cross may come across as anti Semitic in tone. They should be read instead as to people who rejected Christ defiantly and not made to label the Jewish people or made with anti semitic sentiments. Unfortunately the Golden legend was written in an older time where Jewish and Christian relations weren’t healthy, we lament those times.

Happy June

   Each month of the calendar year is dedicated to a Catholic Devotion. In  June it is  the  Sacred Heart of Jesus  because this month is when the annual feast of the Sacred Heart is celebrated. June also marks  LGBTQ+ Pride Month . Pride month this year is a very important time because of the attack on the Trans community and the bigotry by conservatives towards the gay community. This is classic vice under the mask of virtue that saints warn about.   Each month of the calendar year is dedicated to a Catholic Devotion. In April   it is  the Eucharist and the Holy Spirit .   This is because Easter is typically in April and when it is in March the season still continues through April and the Holy Eucharist and the Holy Spirit have a special role in the Easter mysteries. April 1st is also the beginning of Arab American Heritage Month  and Earth Month . Finally, for those lovers of Halloween like myself, look for “Halfway to Halloween” events happening near you or on streaming services like Shudder. The themes of Halloween overlap with those of the Lenten season as well and thus spooky movies during Lent are most appropriate as  Lent continues into the month of April this year.
