Happy July



Each month of the calendar year is dedicated to a Catholic Devotion. In July it is the Precious Blood of Jesus 🩸because this feast was traditionally celebrated on July 1st.  In the Holy Land on this feast the rock where Jesus knelt during His agony is covered with rose petals, commemorating His Precious blood, the faithful take the petals home to recall the Passion of Christ. Many of the relics of Christ (scroll to relics) contain remnants of His Precious Blood, such has seen here. Pope Pius IX once said " Place on thy heart one Drop of the Blood of Jesus and fear nothing." July is also Disability Pride Month

“Consider decorating your house in honor of the Precious Blood this July. Red is the liturgical color often used for Good Friday and Palm Sunday as its hue evokes the color of blood. It is equally suitable for providing subtle reminders in your home of Jesus’s sacrifice. Use a red table cloth or fill a vase with red roses—even a red throw blanket or pillows would do. Other ideas include placing a new crucifix in your home, or perhaps an image of the Passion.“ -From Epicpew

It’s also recommended to watch or attend a Votive Mass of the Precious Blood. The resources above including on the “July 1st” link can be read each day this month. The Prayer of St. Gertrude is a perfect prayer for this month: “Eternal Father, I offer You the most Precious Blood of Your Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home, and within my family and for myself a poor sinner. Amen.” Based on private revelation this prayer is believed to release souls from purgatory.

July 1st: Still Gay Day After Pride month is over it’s important to keep up with the momentum of celebrate Pride and the need to protect the LGBTQ+ community. The monumental Stonewall riots continued from June 28th-July 3rd and thus the beginning of Pride belongs as much to July as it does June. 


As July is the bridge between Summerween and Christmas in July, it’s a fitting time for all things Nightmare Before Christmas!

*As mentioned in the post itself July 4th (unfortunately even in the monumental 250th anniversary of America) is by many being replaced with demonstrations against the cruelty of the Trump administration as opposed to celebrating America. Some people choose to celebrate America while criticizing her errors both past and present. I myself have seen members of the black community state that because they fought in every American war and helped to build this country they won’t allow the symbols of patriotism and America herself to belong to the right wing despite the treatment of the black community (and the queer community, the indigenous, women, immigrants etc.) that continues today. Possibly, if God wills it, there will be a great overhaul of the American system during the midterms and we’ll be able to truly celebrate during this 250th year which will continue through July 4th 2027.*

Candlemas and Groundhog’s Day

Today we honor the Presentation of Jesus, the Light of the World into the Temple in accordance with Jewish law. Today officially closes the Christmas season and Spring begins in many countries.  February 2nd marks 40 days since the birth of Christ on Christmas and is also the midway point between Winter and Spring. Some cultures will celebrate today as the dawning of Spring just as Jesus’ Presentation is the dawning of Salvation.  This is because Simeon, holding Jesus in His arms says “my eyes have beheld your salvation.”  In Jewish Law the firstborn male is dedicated to God on the 40th day since birth and the child’s mother is gone through the rites of purification. For this reason today is a shared feast of Mother and Son.
