Divine Mercy Sunday



Today is the Octave day of Easter, Christmas and Easter are the two holidays in the Church Year with octaves because of their importance in the life of Christians. An octave is an 8 day celebration based in scripture when a celebration was held for 8 days just like Hanukkah as well as in the Old Testament when Temples were dedicated. Each day of the octave holds as much importance as the feast day itself. Today the Gospel reading  tells us of Christ showing mercy to His apostles and not condemnation for their denials and abandonment, He instead says “Peace be with you!” This is the reason for today becoming Divine Mercy Sunday. Today was officially named Divine Mercy Sunday in the year 2000 by Pope St. John Paul II. The devotions of today are based on the private revelations of the Divine Mercy to Saint Faustina. The Divine Mercy image itself is a depiction of Christ in His appearance to the Apostles on Easter night when He says, “Peace be with you!” Today we see the love of God continuing from Calvary, to Easter and to present day. The scrupulous souls have much to rejoice in today as well as those who feel like they are on the outskirts of the Church, to see the Divine Mercy of God is for all and is incomprehensible and inexhaustible.

 Note: Further research into the Divine Mercy image is that the black background isn’t black at all but a blend of all colors there’s also a glow on the crown of Jesus’ head which is a reflection of the Holy Trinity.

Happy June

   Each month of the calendar year is dedicated to a Catholic Devotion. In  June it is  the  Sacred Heart of Jesus  because this month is when the annual feast of the Sacred Heart is celebrated. June also marks  LGBTQ+ Pride Month . Pride month this year is a very important time because of the attack on the Trans community and the bigotry by conservatives towards the gay community. This is classic vice under the mask of virtue that saints warn about. Happy April

  Each month of the calendar year is dedicated to a Catholic Devotion. In April   it is  the Eucharist and the Holy Spirit .   This is because Easter is typically in April and when it is in March the season still continues through April and the Holy Eucharist and the Holy Spirit have a special role in the Easter mysteries. April 1st is also the beginning of Arab American Heritage Month  and Earth Month . Finally, for those lovers of Halloween like myself, look for “Halfway to Halloween” events happening near you or on streaming services like Shudder. The themes of Halloween overlap with those of the Lenten season as well and thus spooky movies during Lent are most appropriate as  Lent continues into the month of April this year.
